Soul Sessions with Kenya Saint-Lot

We speak with alternative and holistic health coach and doula, Kenya Saint-Lot, on leaning into a more holistic way of life and what sensuality and connection mean to her.

Have you always leaned towards a more holistic way of life?

Since a young age, I've always felt a deep connection to the world around me. The rhythm of nature, the harmony of the seasons, and the simple beauty of living things drew me in with an unexplainable fascination. As an introvert and extremely shy kid, I would spend hours outside by myself, observing the intricate patterns of leaves, the dance of sunlight through trees, and the way the earth felt beneath my feet. With nature, I felt the most whole and seen.

This early love for nature sparked my curiosity about a holistic lifestyle. I began to see how everything in the natural world is interconnected, how each element depends on the others to create balance. This realization made me wonder if the same principles could apply to human life. Could we live in a way that honors this connection, not just with nature, but within ourselves?

The more I learned, the more I realized that a holistic approach isn't just about individual well-being—it's about living in sync with the world around us, respecting the delicate balance that sustains life.

Which then naturally drew me to birth work and becoming a doula. The idea of supporting new life as it enters the world, in a way that honors the natural processes and the deep connection between mother and child, felt like a perfect extension of my holistic values.

What is a doula and how did you first get into this field?

A doula is a non-medical birth professional who provides physical, emotional, informational and spiritual support, in my case, to a person before, during, and shortly after childbirth. The role of a doula is to help ensure a safe, positive, and empowering birth experience.

What inspired me to become a doula was witnessing my closest friend navigate through pregnancy and observing how her world completely shifted. Seeing her in such a vulnerable state was both eye-opening and alarming. It made me realize how much we live in an individualistic society, where the deep, communal support that women truly need is often lacking. Women need a village not just to raise a child, but also to support them long before the child is born. This experience fueled my desire to step into the role of a doula, to be part of that much-needed support system, and to help create a more nurturing and connected environment for mothers during this transformative time.

Shortly after signing up for my doula training, I’ve shared the news to my parents. Only then did I learn from my dad that my great grandmother and many women of my African lineage were midwives and medicine women.

You’ve talked online about reconnecting with your body and embracing sensuality and feminine energy. Can you tell us a little bit more about what sensuality means to you, and what you do to feel more connected to your body?

Sensuality, to me, is simply about being—fully experiencing my emotions in their entirety. When you're connected to your sensuality, you allow your body to be your compass, guiding your decisions based on how they make you feel. It’s about being deeply in tune with your pleasure and being receptive to all that life has to offer, not just in a sexual sense, but in every aspect of existence. This connection opens your eyes to areas of your life that you may have taken for granted, revealing the richness and depth that can be found in everyday moments.

Who has inspired you in your own healing and spiritual journey so far?

Women. It is women in their power that have been a significant source of inspiration in my spiritual journey. Their strength, wisdom, and authenticity have likely guided me to explore my own path with more depth and confidence. These women, through their presence and authenticity, have shown me the profound impact of embracing one's true self, which has undoubtedly influenced my own spiritual growth.

But there is one woman in particular that I need to shout out, Gabriella Cristina. At 22 years old, God has put this person on my path and it was no coincidence. She mirrored so much to me and to this day I’m in awe of the seed she had planted in me during that yoga retreat in El Salvador. Seeing her embrace her power, her sexuality, her authenticity and vulnerability has shown me the profound impact of living a life connected to one's inner truth, and it continues to inspire me to do the same.

What can we do to make the first steps to living a more considered, gentler life?

I’ve been saying this over and over again to my close ones, but it is true: give yourself grace and love yourself first. Making sure that your cup is full before you fill anybody else’s. When you give yourself grace, you acknowledge your worth and allow yourself to navigate life’s challenges with kindness. By filling your own cup before filling others, you maintain a reservoir of energy and vitality. This enables you to be more effective and present in your interactions, relationships and responsibilities.

What’s your favourite DL set, and why?

By far the Jaime Embroidered set. I love how sexy it makes me feel and how it compliments my silhouette while still making me feel cute with its flowers and happy colours!
