When our base layer looks good, we want what’s on top to be just as cool. This month we take style tips from our friend and #familyofdora featured stylist and content creator, Chloe Butler. We sit down and talk about what inspires her, how to introduce colour to your looks and her must have pieces.

Tell us about you, what you do and how you got into styling and content creation.

“I’m a 27 year old Northerner living in London. I’ve been lucky in that my passion for style has lead to a lovely career that I pinch myself over every day. At the moment I’m freelance, so I work with a variety of brands on their marketing, as well as my content creation on Instagram. I’ve always loved putting outfits together and I guess over the years as I started to document that more it naturally became part of what I do.”

Have you always loved fashion, and who or what inspires your style?

“I’ve loved fashion for as long as I can remember, from weekend shopping trips with my Mam and Grandma to envisioning myself as a dress designer with some very questionable drawings at 10 years old. It’s just always been a part of me. I tend to take my inspiration from anything and everything. A lot comes from amazing stylish women I see on Instagram and out and about in the city. I’m also hugely inspired by every new season, spring for pastels and prints, and autumn for richer colours and textures.”

What do you wear to brighten your mood?

“Anything that makes me feel good that day. Either something bright and fun, or just a classic look of jeans and a good tee.”

Have you always been drawn to colours in your style? What would you suggest to someone who is nervous about colour but wants to wear it?

“Definitely! I can’t imagine getting dressed every day and not throwing something colourful in there. It can be a little daunting though so I think just adding in smaller pieces and accessories really helps build confidence!”

What are your wardrobe staples that you just couldn’t live without?

“Undies that make me feel good, a great pair of jeans, white tank tops, colourful knitwear and a standout coat.”

We love how you play with texture - combining knits, linens and leathers together. Would you say your wardrobe is transeasonal or do you save certain things for particular seasons?

“A bit of both to be honest. I like to mix and match textures depending on the season, but also if I want to wear something I don’t really care if it’s ‘not right’ for the time of year!”

Has your relationship with your style and fashion changed over the years?

“Ooh! I think it does for everyone as you get older, I definitely know the styles and pieces that work for me and make me feel the most ‘me’ but I also see my style evolving more. I think that’s the fun of it, there are no rules, it’s all just about what makes you feel good!”
